We are delighted to congratulate Karl Schneider on his successful habilitation in the Biomedical Research field! With this achievement, Karl further strengthens the cluster’s position as a leader in biomedical research.
Karl began his scientific career at Cluster member LBI Trauma, where he focused on the decellularisation of placental blood vessels to create allografts – an outstanding example of medical upcycling. After completion of his PhD, he continued his research as a postdoc at MedUni Vienna in Helga Bergmeister’s group. His habilitation thesis, “Enhancing Cardiovascular Scaffolding and 3D Bioprinting with Natural Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine”, explores strategies for developing biocompatible vascular structures using natural materials.
A key focus of his work lies in using placental tissue for vascular grafts and pioneering approaches in 3D bioprinting. This research could make a significant contribution to creating clinically relevant artificial tissues and organs. We congratulate Karl on his habilitation and look forward to his future contributions to the field.
