The City of Salzburg honors remarkable achievements in the fields of art & culture and science & research with the Kulturfondspreis (Culture Fund Awards). This year, the award for science and research goes to Cluster member Prof. Andreas Traweger.
Traweger is the head of the Institute for Tendon and Bone Regeneration at the Paracelsus Medical University, where he also holds a professorship for Regenerative Biology. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 papers, many of them results of cooperations within the Cluster. Recently, Traweger was part of a ground breaking study, published in Science Translational Medicine, where the team of international scientists was able to discover the SPARC protein as a genetic predisposition factor for tendon and ligament injuries. They are now working on developing a possible new therapy based on these findings.
